With focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat, govt puts restriction on import of colour TV sets
In a bid to curb imports from China amid focus on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the government has imposed restrictions on imports of colour television.
The move is aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing and curb import of non-essential items from China.
“Import policy of colour television…..is amended from free to restricted,” Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification on Thursday.
Putting an item under the restricted category of imports means the importer of that commodity will have to seek a licence from the commerce ministry’s DGFT for the imports.
China is one of the biggest exporters of television in the world.
The curbs are imposed on TV sets of screen size ranging from up to 36 cm to over 105 cm, and LCD sets of screen size below 63 cm.
