Society’s irresponsible behavior behind rapid COVID spread: Harsh Vardhan
Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that society’s irresponsible and lax behavior was behind the rapid current surge in the COVID19 cases and appealed to Lok Sabha MPs to spread awareness regarding COVID appropriate behavior in their respective constituencies.
“COVID is spreading rapidly because of the irresponsible behavior of the people. It seems people have misunderstood unlock processes with and have become relaxed thinking everything is fine. They must remember that COVID appropriate conduct is important. Hands must be kept away from the face. Masks are a must and so is physical distance. I appeal to MPs to help launch a campaign for public awareness regarding COVID appropriate behavior and to enforce the same in their respective constituencies. If we can end laxity in our behavior, the fight against COVID can be won quickly. We have to break the chain of COVID transmission,” said Vardhan replying to a nearly five-hour debate in Lok Sabha on COVID-19.
The minister said the national lockdown was helpful as five independent studies have shown.
“Lockdown prevented cases and deaths at a time when the situation was critical,” he said.
Vardhan also said 145 COVID vaccine candidates worldwide were in the pre-clinical evaluation and 35 in the clinical stage.
“In India, 30 vaccines have been supported and of these three are in advanced human trial stages and more than four are in pre-clinical stages. India has planned ahead for vaccine distribution as and when it is available.”
The minister added that India was now conducting 12 lask tests a day and has developed the capacity to produce 10 lakh test kits daily.
“We have evaluated 870 kits and recommended 420 and 308 are in use,” Vardhan said.
