Rajasthan crisis Congress to move confidence motion in Assembly

The Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government will move a confidence motion in the Rajasthan Assembly during the session beginning on Friday, a party leader said.

This was announced on Thursday at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting chaired by Mr. Gehlot. At the CLP meeting held at his residence, Mr. Gehlot urged Congress MLAs to forget the acrimony of the past month and move on.

Earlier, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Congress leader Sachin Pilot met, after a month-long political turmoil at the former’s residence in Jaipur. They attended the Congress Legislature Party meeting, a day before the State Assembly begins.

Mr. Gehlot said “Whatever misunderstanding occurred in the party in the last one month, we need to forgive and forget in the interest of country, State and the people and in the interest of democracy.

“We have to put all our energies in this fight to save democracy with the spirit of forgive and forget and move forward,” Mr. Gehlot tweeted.

Ahead of the meeting, the Congress has revoked the suspension of MLAs Bhanwarlal Sharma and Vishvendra Singh who were supporting ousted Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot.

They were suspended on July 17 after some audio clips surfaced pertaining to an alleged conspiracy to topple the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan. Vishvendra Singh was also sacked as the Tourism Minister.

Party sources said the meeting would be attended by former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot and other dissident MLAs.The decision to revoke the suspension of the two MLAs follows a patch-up between the Ashok Gehlot and his sacked deputy Sachin Pilot after the intervention of the party’s top leadership in Delhi.

After a consultative discussion, the suspension of @INCRajasthan MLA Sh. Bhanwarlal Sharma Ji and Sh. @vishvendrabtp ji is hereby revoked, AICC general secretary Avinash Pande tweeted.Eighteen MLAs had backed Pilot in the rebellion, demanding a change of leadership in Rajasthan.
