Influence of Delta variant of Covid-19 is increasing rapidly in the world: WHO officials
United Nations / Geneva: The Delta variant of the Covid-19 is gaining ground in the world compared to other variants of the virus because it transmits much faster. WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminath made the claim on Friday. The Delta variant of the Covid-19 first appeared in India.
WHO According to the Covid-19 weekly epidemiological update released on June 15, the Delta variant is now available in about 80 countries. B.1.617.2 Delta variant was first discovered in India in October 2020.
Replying to a question at a press conference in Geneva on Friday, Swaminathan said that the Delta variant was becoming the most popular form of Kovid-19 in the world as it spreads the infection much faster.
Just hours before his remarks, Public Health England said that infections with the Delta variant had risen by 33,630 a week in the UK, with 75,953 people suffering from it so far. 99% of cases of covid-19 infection in the country are from this variant.
