Chinmayanand discharged from hospital, shifted to jail
Within hours of rejection of his bail petition by the Shahjahanpur district court former union minister Chinmayanand was sent back to Shahjahanpur jail after being discharged from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS).
Admitted to the super-specialty hospital on September 23, days after his arrest on September 20, after he had complained of chest pain, the rape accused later said he was suffering from severe weakness and urinary problems.
PGI director Rakesh Kapoor said Chinmayanand’s health had stabilised. He spent exactly a week in the cardiology ward where he underwent an angiography and a battery of tests. Yet no major problem was detected.
Before leaving for Shahjahanpur the 72-year-old underwent an eye check-up at the King George Medical University hospital.
Earlier on Monday, the bail plea of Chinmayanand was rejected. He has been accused of rape and sexually exploiting a 23-year-old law student who was studying in a college run by him.
The student said Chinmayanand had filmed her in the bath and started using the video to blackmail and sexually exploit her.
The Shahjahanpur court has also denied bail to the rape survivor who was arrested in a counter case of blackmailing Chinmayanand for extortion of Rs 5 crore.
Counsel for both the rape accused and the rape survivor are now to move the High Court for bail.
Meanwhile, the Congress is to stage a protest at the district level on Tuesday to demand justice for the rape survivor.
